Activate Ratings and Reviews in your online shop

In this marketing article, as well as the video below, we show you how to activate ratings and reviews in your JTL-Shop 5 and how you can customize the individual options you have. This way your customers get a chance to review your products and inform potential customers about the quality of your products.

Add Ratings and Reviews to your JTL-Shop 5

After taking care of of the connection of google shopping to JTL-Shop 5 in our last video,
we now want to deal with the internal page. Trust is a crucial factor if you want to convince
customers of your products. You can achieve that through ratings on your products from
other customers. That’s why we show you in this video how to activate ratings in your JTL-shop 5.

Settings

You can find the settings for the rating system in the depiction section, under standard elements and ratings. Here you have the active and inactive ratings in their separate tabs. Active ratings are the ones that have been released and are currently being displayed. The inactive ratings, on the other hand, are not visible to your customers. Furthermore you have a search bar that helps you to quickly find ratings for a specific product. Finally we have the settings and will go through them quickly. The first field is very important, since it activates the rating system. Only then will the ratings be visible to your customers and allow them to submit their own ratings.

Customize your Ratings and Reviews

Similar to other Commentary ad rating systems, you have the option to hold comments for review and publish them only after your permission. You can also determine how many ratings each page should contain how they should be sorted out. If the next option is set to yes, each review shows how many people found it helpful. If you want to notify your customers that they have the option to comment or that they haven’t done that yet, then you can set the Rating Reminder to Yes. This will send an email to your customers after every purchase, if they agreed to receive your newsletter. In the next field you can define
which customer groups should be reminded. By pressing and holding the control key you can select multiple groups. You can also decide how many days after the shipping of the product should the reminder be sent to them.

Offer bonuses and discounts

 To encourage them to submit ratings you can also offer them bonuses and discounts. Those can be set in the following two steps. Bonus 1 is for those simply rate a product. And bonus 2 is for those add a review to their rating. The value of each bonus is again your decision to make. And to avoid turning this into a ripoff, you can set the maximum bonus value that customer can earn each month. In the end you can also decide if you’d like to allow ratings if the product has been acquired first. We save our changes and now head over to the Frontend to have a look at it.

Test it

Now if we go to one of the popular Listings that include ratings, we can see there is a tab with reviews next to the description, similar to Amazon and Ebay. You can give a maximum 5 and minimum 1 star in your ratings. Next to it you have a title and a review of the product. The name of the customer, as well as the submission date, shows us that the review is legit and therefore increases trust. Since we activated the “helpful review” option, we notice above the stars the number of customers who found this review helpful. To check how everything would look like in your Backend if you activated the option to release ratings, we are going to do this now and so sign in as a customer to the shop.

A quick tip before we proceed, just in case this is confusing to you. This option is about releasing the reviews after a permission, and not wether they are visible or not. In other words, if you have set it to Yes, then the next reviews will be held inactive until you released them. By setting it to No the reviews get released automatically. Now that we have signed in we see the option to rate a product and click on it. We can choose between 1 star and 5, type a short title and then our review. Once we’ve submitted it we receive a confirmation. But this review is not visible yet. If we return to our Backend we can find it in the list of inactive reviews. We checkmark it and then click to activate it. Now the review is
visible.
